In this study, a sprayable wound dressing based on sodium alginate hydrogel was designed and loaded with silver nanoparticles green-synthesized using yarrow extract. The nanoparticles were synthesized using a biocompatible method, and their formation was confirmed by a characteristic absorption peak at 410 nm and a uniform spherical morphology, with particle sizes ranging from 20 to 80 nm. Antioxidant testing of the yarrow extract showed that, at a concentration of 25% v/v, its radical scavenging activity (RSA) was 62.77%, with an EC₅₀ of approximately 6.5% v/v, indicating a strong capacity to neutralize reactive oxygen species. The prepared wound dressings exhibited high moisture absorption (approximately 910%), gradual degradation over two weeks, and controlled silver release of up to approximately 90% over 120 hours. In antibacterial tests, the sample containing 25% extract and 20–40 mg of silver showed the greatest inhibitory effect, with inhibition zones of 20 mm against S. aureus and 17 mm against E. coli. These results demonstrate the successful design of a biocompatible system with antibacterial and antioxidant properties and controlled release, with potential for use as an effective sprayable wound dressing for treating infected wounds and burns.
